50 tech companies have come out in support of open AI models.
On July 24, Jensen Huang published his first post on X, sharing an open letter titled “Open Weights and American AI Leadership.” The letter argues that open-weight models, which can be downloaded, modified, and run on private infrastructure, are essential for broader AI access, stronger competition, and continued innovation.
The letter launched with 25 signatories, including NVIDIA, Microsoft, Meta, and Hugging Face. OpenAI joined shortly after, bringing the total to 32. By the next day, the list had grown to 50 companies, with Google, AMD, GitHub, and Cloudflare among the new supporters.
The biggest question now is where Anthropic stands.
Anthropic remains the most prominent major AI developer that has not signed the letter. The industry is now watching to see whether it joins the emerging consensus or takes a separate position in the debate over the future of open models.
